Google has paid tribute to the 12 victims of the massacre at the offices of Charlie Hebdo with a black ribbon placed on its homepage.

Around the world, tributes have been paid to the eight journalists, two police officers, a visitor, and a maintenance worker who died in the vicious attack.

After being used by millions of people to express support for those impacted by the attack, the hashtag #JesuisCharlie is still popular. “The phrase “Je Suis Charlie” means “I am Charlie.”

Google Doodle Pays Tribute To Queen’s Death

Queen Elizabeth II has passed away. Thursday, September 8, saw the peaceful death of Britain’s longest-reigning monarch at her Balmoral estate.

The public, brands, and public figures have all taken a moment to show their respect for Her Majesty since the announcement was made just after 6.30 p.m. on Thursday.

Google is the newest business to do so. On Friday, September 9th, the tech giant ditched its daily-changing Doodle in favor of a grey version of its typically-colorful logo.

To commemorate the Queen’s passing, the search engine also added a black ribbon to its home page.

The modification occurs as the UK begins a period of national mourning that will last for several weeks following the passing of a monarch.

This morning, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III wanted the mourning period to last for seven days following the Queen’s funeral.

The Queen’s funeral has not yet been scheduled, but it is anticipated to take place on September 18 or 19, as is customary 10 days after the monarch’s passing.

Many companies and brands are honoring Her Majesty, Google being just one of them.

Burberry made the decision to postpone its London Fashion Week show, which was set for September 17, on Thursday night in a show of respect for the Queen.

As a gesture of respect for the Queen, Selfridges also closed its doors today, Friday, September 9, and will reopen over the weekend.

Why Is There A Black Ribbon On Google?

Today, a black ribbon is visible on the Google homepage in honor of Prince Philip. According to a statement made public by Buckingham Palace, the Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, passed away on Friday (April 9) at the age of 99.

When the Queen’s husband Prince Philip passed away in April 2022, Google also displayed the same black ribbon in his honor.

The death of the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen of England’s husband, was reported on April 9 by Buckingham Palace. He was 99 years old.

The palace issued the following statement: “Her Majesty The Queen announced the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, with great sorrow.”

Also disclosed was the fact that His Royal Highness “passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

He had just recently made his way back to Windsor Castle after almost a month in the hospital, where he had a heart procedure and received treatment for an infection.
